About Us
Saxon Glass Technologies, Inc. was
started in 1996 when a large glass maker came to the New York State
College of Ceramics at Alfred University in search of a solution to
their glass strength problems. After the successful demonstration
of trial runs, the professors set up shop at the Ceramic Corridor
Innovation Center to meet the new challenge from the New York State
legislature to help with the economic growth of the region. Dr.
Arun K. Varshneya, professor of glass science and engineering,
serves as the president, and William C. LaCourse, professor of glass
science, is chief scientific consultant.

The educators-cum-entrepreneurs at
Saxon Glass Technologies, Inc. have over 40 years experience in
research on ion exchange strengthening, and have authored several
publications and
a
patent dealing with the process. They are well aware of the
technical issues involved in producing consistent high-strength
glasses and have developed processes for "optimized" ion exchange
with which the time and cost of strengthening can be significantly
reduced
The company has also developed
general process control and quality control tests to assure a given
level of strengthening. The tests are carried out at Saxon Glass,
and the at laboratories of the
New York State
College of Ceramics through contractual arrangements. Contact
Saxon Glass for help with the development of special processes and
tests to assure consistent performance and the lowest cost
production. |
